When I first heard this driver had been developed through Artificial intelligence my interest peaked. What does that even mean, I thought. I did a little research and this is what I found.
Flash Face’s sophisticated architecture was created by Artificial Intelligence – the first known instance of using A.I.in the golf equipment industry — and “Machine Learning,” a field of computer science that uses statistical techniques to give computer systems the ability to “learn” with data without being explicitly programmed. Through Machine Learning our computers cycled through 15,000 face iterations, learning from each one, before arriving at Flash Face.
Sounds awesome doesn’t it. And it looks awesome. It’s fair to say that Callaway had a period of time (5-10 years ago) where its product didn’t look that great on the shelf. That’s all changed and what we are seeing now is a product that performs and also looks very aesthetically pleasing. The green and yellow colour scheme certainly catches the eye. They haven’t missed with the detail though, a great range of shafts are available and the multi compound align grip is a great way to finish the club.
Performance matters most though. So now for the exciting part, getting to hit the driver myself. I look at this from two stand points, getting better performance for our customers and improving my own game. I got myself setup on the simulator in store and fired a few shots away, unfortunately for me it takes a few shots to get the body moving properly and the swing in sync. First impressions were great, a different sound than I’m used to. I’m not great at describing sounds but I feel the different sound was due to the amount of carbon that Callaway have put into the driver.
Overall the driver produced better ball speeds for me and a very consistent spin rate. The driver itself has a load of adjustability, with a movable weight around the perimeter of the head, which makes it ideal for dialing in the desired shape.
The real test is having a range of golfers hit the driver. Whenever a new driver hits the market, I’m keen to have as many people hit it as possible to put it through its paces. I learn pretty quickly how the driver performs when hit in the centre, but also importantly how it performs when it is hit off-centre.
Months down the track I’m happy to report that the Callaway Epic Flash is really what it’s cracked up to be. Very fast off the face and great for a range of different swing speeds. I’m not surprised now when it is the best performer in a driver fitting now. Recently it was the only driver awarded 20 out of 20 stars in the 2019 Golf Digest Hot List. Something that Callaway will be very proud of.
If you are interested in getting fitted for a Callaway Epic Flash driver then make contact with us and we’ll arrange a time once we reach level 2. We’ll then make sure our simulator is ready to go and most importantly one of our expert club fitters will be available to work out the best setup for you and your swing!
