Golf Stand Bags

A stand bag is the versatile choice. You can carry it when you feel like walking, and strap it to a trundler when you do not. For a lot of golfers that flexibility matters more than anything else on the spec sheet.

Stand Bag or Cart Bag?

It is not really about whether you use a trundler, because a stand bag will sit on one perfectly well. The question is whether you ever want to carry. If the answer is never, a cart bag will give you more storage for the money. If you like having the option to walk, even occasionally, a stand bag is the one. And if you do not lug much gear about, no big rain jacket, no spare everything, a smaller stand bag covers both jobs nicely.

A Word on Weight

This is personal preference rather than gospel, but we do not really like stand bags much over 4kg. They start to feel heavy. Hybrid bags in particular are heavier, and plenty of people pick one up in the shop and say it feels fine. The thing is, that is an empty bag. Once you have got 14 clubs, balls, a jacket, a drink bottle and everything else in there, the extra weight shows up. Worth thinking about before you commit.

What We Would Put in Your Hands

The PING Hoofer is a bag we recommend a lot and it has earned that. It carries well, it stands up properly on a slope, and it lasts. If you are walking regularly, start there.

Worth Checking Before You Buy

  • Weight, especially if you walk 18 rather than nine
  • Strap comfort and how the load sits across both shoulders
  • Divider layout, and whether the stand mechanism feels solid
  • Whether it will sit properly on your trundler if you use one
