Ryan Maxwell

Ryan discovered golf in 2003 at just 14 years old, thanks to his dad’s encouragement and countless days playing at Whakatane Golf Club. School holidays were spent on the course, squeezing in up to three rounds a day with his best mate — a sign of the passion that would shape his career.

His early days at Whakatane Golf Club nurtured both his skills and competitive spirit. He went on to represent the Bay of Plenty in 2007 and 2008, including being part of the winning Bay of Plenty Gerrard Shield team. He’s also a multiple club champion in strokeplay and matchplay at both Whakatane and Ohope Golf Clubs.

In 2014, Ryan began his professional journey with the NZPGA traineeship. Although a back injury temporarily forced him back to amateur status, he returned stronger than ever, ready to pursue the professional ranks again in 2022.

As a coach, Ryan believes that every golfer’s swing is unique — the key is refining it so the clubhead returns to impact position with confidence and consistency. He specialises in working with beginners, helping new golfers overcome early hurdles and find their love for the game.

His approach to club fitting is refreshingly simple: use what works best for your swing. He encourages golfers not to limit themselves to one brand, but to find the ideal set-up that complements their individual game.

For Ryan, golf isn’t just a sport — it’s a way to stay fit, build friendships, and keep challenging yourself. Working at Golf 360 alongside a team of like-minded pros means every day is another chance to help golfers get more out of their game.
